St. Ives Surf School | Porthmeor Beach

Situated directly in front of the Tate Gallery on Porthmeor Beach, this proposal for St. Ives Surf School created new operational space for lessons and bookings, as well four new changing room facilities and two new public showers.

The design seeks to unify the currently detached changing room building with the contextual mass of the St. Ives Surf School / RNLI Lifeguard building and beach chalets.  This has been achieved by utilising the same material finish for the decking, wall to West elevation, and the flat roof, alluding to a single, seamless folded element, that wraps up and over the new changing room and shower facility, as well as providing much needed circulation space in front of the St. Ives Surf School and RNLI Lifeguards.
